Executive Blog

Hello Everyone,

My name is Daniel Roytman and I am currently serving as the Vice President of Finance for the Lazaridis Students’ Society.

My team and I have the exciting responsibility of tackling both day-to-day financial problems, as well as long term planning, budgeting, and ensuring that your dollars are well allocated. If you are ever interested in our rules and guidelines, feel free to check out the Finance Policy, which can be found here on the website.

On Thursday November 24th, LazSoc will be hosting Snowball 2016: Fire & Ice. I had a great time last year at this event, and I would highly recommend attending! If you are ever curious about any future events like Snowball, or are interested in learning a bit more about LazSoc and our amazing clubs, download our app!

I hope your exams weren’t the scariest part of Halloween!

Feel free to reach out with any questions

Cheers,

If you were to get rid of one state in the U.S., which would it be and why?

I would get rid of Hawaii. Not the island itself, but it’s association as a state within the U.S. The phrase “Out of sight, out of mind” is unfortunately not as applicable for Hawaii, as it is geographically pretty far but still affected by the choices the mainland Americans make. It’s also the most recent state added to the U.S, so you can tell they were pretty close to getting away with doing their own thing.

Building on from that, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?

To be honest I’m not deeply immersed in understanding the details of either politician, but I have been very interested in all the memes on social media of the two after each debate. I would say Hillary Clinton because Trump’s bigotry has and will continue to bring out the worst in his supporters.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

I would be a black crayon. With a black crayon, you can blend any colour into a darker shade– making that 12 pack of crayons feel like a 24 pack– turning reds into dark burnt reds, blues into dark navy blues. Also works well to outline before you start colouring in. Plus that way you can draw all-black outfits for your stick figures. Everyone knows the easiest way to look put together is to have a monochromatic outfit!

Favourite drunk food?

I always have phases of drunk food. When I first bought a panini press I would come home from the bar and make grilled tuna wraps. Now I’m really feeling Frites poutine with sriracha. Their fries are thicker, seasoned, and there’s always a good ratio of curds and gravy.

If you could trade places with any Kardashian, who would it be and why?

I would trade places with Kendall Jenner. She gets hit with the least shade from the media, and gets to travel a lot for her job as a model.

What are your career aspirations?

I would really love to work in the creative industries, specifically advertising. Ideally down the road I would like to lead a team in generating and executing our own ideas/projects. I want to work with different clients around the world and get the chance to travel for my job as well.

What is the most memorable concert you’ve attended?

I’ve been to a lot of shows, each one of them being unique and special in their own way depending on who I’m going with. I would have to say that Bestival 2015 was one of the best music experiences I had. This year they moved the venue to Woodbine Park, but in 2015 it was on the Toronto Islands. We had to go on the ferry to go there and back, and it felt like we were going to a different country when we were on the ferry (lol). The setup was amazing, lots of random little things going on like an inflatable church where drag queens were getting married, a face-painting booth where mermaids painted your face, and a beach stage where everyone was lounging under giant white canopies. There were so many different stages with different music, the vibes were unreal. I always tell my friends they need to go– maybe I should try and be an ambassador for them with all this personal selling I’ve been doing to my friends.

What are three things on your bucket list?

I don’t really write down things on my bucket list per se, but I do find myself longing to accomplish certain things after I come back from traveling. Off the top of my head, I would say:
1. Get my Open Water Diver certification
2. Fluent (or at least business conversational) in French and/or German
3. Travel by myself for 2-4 weeks
