Happy January!

Voting opens today and closes on Thursday!

We are currently getting into the thick of things – co-op interviews, midterms fast approaching and elections! I would like to thank all of those who attended the Lazaridis Networking Gala last week. With over 45 different companies in attendance, I hope that each attendee gained a new contact that they can keep in touch with in the future.

If you would like to get involved with the Lazaridis Students’ Society next year, we currently have applications open! From my experience, being the Vice President of Club’s & Associations has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life! Please feel free to reach out to me or any of the other VP’s if you are interested in applying to get more information. Applications close Thursday at 11:59PM, and can be found at www.lazsoc.ca/hiring!

Thank you,

Kyle Somerville

Name: Ryan Price

Program: BBA (Co-op)

Year: 3

What are you most proud of in your university career thus far?

I am most proud of being accepted into the Case Strategy Course at Wilfrid Laurier University last year. I am now part of a team that is filled with very intelligent individuals, in which we can share our knowledge and insights with each other. I have been able to compete in Case Competitions across North America which has built my analytical skills and presentation capabilities tremendously. The experience has opened my mind to different approaches of tackling strategic issues and overcoming multiple obstacles. I am very excited to see where this recent accomplishment takes me into the future.

What are the top 3 things one your bucket list?

  • Explore both Asia and Europe! (Never crossed the Atlantic Ocean yet L.)
  • Complete a Ted Talks at some point in my life (Or a speaking occasion very similar!)
  • Work and live abroad short-term (Love Canada too much to move away!)

If you could have any job and be anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I would stay in Toronto since I enjoy the city life very much. For the job aspect, I would want to be a consultant / associate with McKinsey & Company. I have been fortunate to meet multiple associates / executives / partners at the firm in both Toronto and New York. The culture seems amazing and I haven’t heard anyone who has not enjoyed working there. As a consultant, you get to challenge yourself with new problems every single day. Not to mention, traveling is usually involved which I would never turn down!

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in life?

The most valuable lesson I have learned in life is to always be true to yourself. As easy as it may sound, it really isn’t. Pretending to be someone different is dangerous for one reason; because you can forget who you really are. From university, to work, to our different friend groups, and etc., it can be very difficult being your true self, all the time. A lot of us get caught up in pretending to be different versions of ourselves, whether it be to stand out, to fit in, to feel comfortable, or whatever the reasons may be; it gets stressful and tiring as time goes on. The moment you start being who you want to be, rather than what others want to see, is a very positive world of difference that I challenge you to experience.

You’ve won a free trip. Where would you go and why?

I would have to stay Hawaii! I have always been a beach person and from what I hear they have some of the best in the world. There are also so many islands to explore and feel like the adventure never ends no matter how many times you visit.

Favourite childhood memory?

One of my favorite childhood memories would be starring in the movie “The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio”. I got to film along side stars like Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Erik Knudsen. It may not have launched my acting career, but it is for sure something I will never forget.
