Executive Blog

Hello everyone,

I hope you had a great semester! On behalf of the Lazaridis Students’ Society I want to thank you for an amazing year! Before I began this role I thought I was prepared. I looked at the performance of past presidents and had no idea why they slowly went crazy throughout the year…but now I know. Being President is not an easy job as I am sure all the club presidents can attest to this. Its stressful, time consuming, and emotionally draining but if I could do it all again I would in a heartbeat.

Over the past year, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a team composed of over 40 people who all share the same passion for the organization that I do. Having been on SBESS or LazSoc since my second week at WLU, I have seen this organization grow and develop to where it is now and I am so proud of every single person on the Executive team and VP team.

This past year has been nothing short of an amazing experience. Thank you to everyone who’s played a part in the Lazaridis Students’ Society this past year as a general member, club executive, club president, or LazSoc Exec. Without the support from each student, we couldn’t come close to achieving all that we’ve achieved. I know my VP team and I have had our ups and downs and I wanted to say one thing to them. What this organization has achieved has not been through me, any president could do that, it has been through you and your teams. You are the reason we had such an amazing year. You established a foundation for us to grow and I love you even if you don’t love me.  That being said, I wish Angelo and his team the best of luck. #makeLazSocGreatAgain

Thank you,

What’s your favourite Laurier experience?

My most favourite experience at Laurier by far would definitely be getting to travel to the IKEA’s headquarter in Burlington to present our idea of how IKEA can be more sustainable at their monthly sustainability forum. A big shout out to my group members Jake, Matt, Spencer, and Zach! I definitely would not have gotten this chance without all of their hard-work.

If you could see 24 hours into the future what would you do with this ability?

I would start my own poker team, go the Vegas, make a lot of money and have a ton of fun there. After this, I would then take all the money and start investing in the stock market to make even more money.

What’s your funniest bar moment?

This one time I got very intoxicated at the Pub on King, I bought roses for all of my friends. When we left, my roommate decided to eat them and up until today, we still don’t know why he did that.

Who’s the most interesting person you’ve met on campus and why?

Definitely be Laura Allan! Being on Enactus this year has given me the opportunity to work with and learn more about her. She is very passionate about social entrepreneurship and has provided our team with a lot of support and guidance throughout this entire year.

If you could give first year students one piece of advice before exams, what would it be?

For courses like BU111 and BU121, make sure that you find 1 or 2 good studying partners to talk over all of the concepts before exams. By “talk” here I mean teaching your friend the way that you understand it and come up with different examples for each of the concepts. This way, you will understand the concepts much better!

For courses that are more math heavy, such as MA129 or BU127, I always find it helpful to just sit down and work through all of the suggested problems at least 2 or 3 times until I fully understand them.

In your opinion, what’s the best meal to grab on campus and where is the ideal study spot?

The chicken quesadilla from the Union Market is always my go-to when I am on campus all day and want something quick but good.

I am one of those who need complete silence when I study so my ideal and most favourite study spot on campus is the library’s 7th floor. I always go to a specific spot that right in the middle of the floor, and the funny thing is I always see the same people every time I am there.
