Who are we?
The Lazaridis Students' Society ("LazSoc") is a student-run organization at the Lazaridis School of Business & Economics. We oversee 26 subsidiary clubs, associations, and committees made up of 6,000+ undergraduate students.
What do we do?
LazSoc strives to enrich the Lazaridis student experience beyond the classroom. Our clubs host a variety of events throughout the year which provide opportunities for learning new skills, networking, and personal growth.
The Presidents oversee all operational aspects of LazSoc, working closely with the Executive Leadership Team. We set the vision and mission for the organization as a whole and make high level operational decisions to ensure that we are always providing the best possible student experience for every Laz student. We act as senior resources for our internal team as well as the clubs’ community. We also work closely with Lazaridis faculty and the Dean’s office, and represent the student body on a number of faculty and administrative committees.
The Club Strategy portfolio provides a support system for our 23 clubs that operate under the Lazaridis Students’ Society. By constructing a positive environment in which all clubs feel supported, this portfolio ensures that our club offerings provide unique value to the students of Laz.
The External Affairs portfolio is committed to building and maintaining relationships with other business schools and their respective organizations, in order to help facilitate the vision of growing Lazaridis’ reputation and giving Laz students a more enriched undergrad experience.
The Internal Affairs portfolio operates to facilitate a welcoming and inclusive club culture within our Executive Team and Clubs Community. We manage many functions within the organization, including administrative tasks, engaging our team in ED&I practices, and building connections with students in the Lazaridis Faculty. Our overall purpose is to support the team in accomplishing meaningful work while building foundational relationships.
The Operations portfolio plans and executes all notable flagship events for the student body such as O-day, LNG, and YEG. These events provide students with the opportunities to learn new skills, network and personal growth. The portfolio is in charge of all logistics for the events and spearheading philanthropic initiatives throughout the year such as Bell let's Talk and ThinkPink. Together with other portfolios we organize events that strive to enrich the lazaridis student experience beyond the classroom.
The Technology portfolio primarily manages the website and ensures all clubs and content are accurately represented on the site. This year, we are expanding the portfolio's scope by taking on more tasks/projects involving process efficiency (e.g., automation, streamlining, creating new processes, etc.)
The Corporate Portfolio is responsible for maintaining and growing the current base of LazSoc’s corporate partners. The team is responsible for creating partnerships on behalf of the Lazaridis Students’ Society, and bringing value to students by creating recruitment opportunities through company representative presence on campus or in attendance at our events.
The Finance Portfolio oversees the financial transactions and finance needs of not only LazSoc, but all the clubs within the Lazaridis Faculty. By working hand-in-hand with each club individually, we are able to ensure that clubs have the financial resources they need to host events that provide value to all students.
The Marketing portfolio manages and operates all of LazSoc’s marketing and communication platforms. This includes but is not limited to the content creation and management of all social media channels, email blasts, and in-person outreach. Our goal is to keep students engaged and informed on the happenings within the Lazaridis community, as well as to support our clubs in showcasing their events and achievements via takeovers. This is accomplished through online posts, the writing and editing of forms of communication such as MorningByte newsletters, robust event promotions, and the designing and distributing unique LazSoc merchandise.
The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) portfolio is at the forefront of creating a more inclusive and equitable Lazaridis community. We focus on educating and engaging students through social media posts, townhalls, blogs, and events that ensures everyone feels welcome. By collaborating with the other Laz clubs, we strive to foster a sense of belonging for all, making Laz a more diverse and equitable place for all students.
